Solidarity to Those who Fight for Freedom and Justice in the Land that was Once Called Persia..
As we see the continued unrest and bloodshed on the streets of Iran, where people have awaken from 30 years of slumbering repression and are demanding for their individual rights of freedom and justice from the Islamic Regime, we on this blog who are strong believers in freedom as every living soul’s basic human right, stand in solidarity with the brave and courageous people in Iran who are willing to die for their rights. We’ve so much on our minds that we want to spill out regarding this issue but at the same time, we’re struck by a wave of speechlessness as we see so many innocents slain. We wonder, was the June Presidential election in 2009 so grossly acted out by the Regime which had basically strangled the nation for the past 30 years, that it eventually shook the very foundation of what Persians had always believed in, deep down, stemming from being descendants of Cyrus the Great, the Father of human rights? Did Cyrus turn in his own grave when the ultimate evil deed was unleashed in 2009? Was the geological paradigm shift in the Iranian society toward the Regime so eminently powerful that the whole world felt the “shake” which quickly opened its eyes on the difference between the Islamic Regime and the true will of the people of Iran? Only time will tell whether the will of Freedom would prevail over the will of Tyranny… Until then, here are a few thoughtful quotes from famous political figures who knew what fighting for freedom, liberty and human rights were about…
“Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
- Lord Acton
“And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that. All power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
- Lord Acton
“Liberty is not the power of doing what we like, but the right to do what we ought.”
- Lord Acton
“It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.”
- Mahatma Ghandi
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it–always.”
- Mahatma Ghandi
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
- Nelson Mandela
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
- Nelson Mandela
“It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.”
- Nelson Mandela
“Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another.”
- Nelson Mandela
“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.”
- Nelson Mandela
“When the water starts boiling it is foolish to turn off the heat.”
- Nelson Mandela
We sincerely hope that the wave of change will finally release the chokehold of despotism and resuscitate the spirit of freedom, liberty and human rights in the land of Persia once and for all…
